PICO DA TIJUCA - TIJUCA NATIONAL PARK
Have you ever imagined what it’s like to have a 360º view of the whole of Rio? At the summit of Tijuca Peak - the highest mountain in Tijuca Forest - which is a staggering 1,022m off the ground, you’ll be able to see Niterói, the Maracanã, the South zone, the East zone, Gávea Rock and Guanabara Bay. A truly spectacular view.
The trail itself usually takes around an hour and a half, it’s a well-outlined track up a light slope. The route follows the contour of the hills and for the most part runs under the cooling shade of the trees.
Before reaching the top, we’ll take a short break at the Tijuca Peak Mirim lookout point where you’ll be treated to a unique view of the forest and the city. To get to the top, we’ll first have to climb 117 stairs sculpted into the rock, with 120m of iron chain as a handrail. Once at the summit, an immense feeling of victory is practically unavoidable!
